BRIDGEPORT, CT - Liam Haycock received the East Coast Conference Excellence in Community and Character Award during the conference annual dinner held at the University of Bridgeport on Monday evening June 4, 2018. 

The conference's most prestigious award recognizes student-athletes who distinguish themselves through positive behaviors and actions consistent with NCAA division 2 attributes of learning, service, passion, sportsmanship, balance and resourcefulness.

As a member of the Firebird men's soccer team, Haycock participated in numerous community engagement activities including serving Food and Friends, St. Colletta School, and the Rock n Roll marathon and CAUSES roof top gardens. 

Liam served the university as an international student service assistant and as a tutor in the student achievement center.  This past March, Liam participated in a webinar hosted by Education USA as a part of the Department of State, designed to guide international students on higher education opportunities in the United States.   Liam represented the university during the 2016 ECC Leadership Conference and participated in the 2016 NCAA Leadership Forum held in Phoenix, Arizona. 

During his senior year, Liam served as President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.  He was instrumental in the men's soccer team's success reaching the 2017 ECC Championship finals and program's birth in the NCAA Championship.  Liam spent his final semester serving as Sports Communications intern while Assistant Athletic Director for Communications Erik Zedalis was away serving on military duty. 

A 2017 East Coast Conference John Smillie, Jr. Award winner, Liam Haycock is the 
fourth Firebird selected to receive the ECC Community and Character Award behind Tomas Gajdusek (men's tennis 2012), Kaydian Jones (women's cross country/track and field 2014) and Marlena Wright (women's cross country/track and field 2016). 

The Stafford, England native graduated summa cum laude with a degree in English in May 2018.
