DOBBS FERRY, NY – The No. 3 seed University of the District of Columbia men's soccer team will visit No. 2 seed Mercy College on Tuesday, October 31st at 1 p.m. for the East Coast Conference Championship Tournament semifinals.
The Firebirds, who to this point have enjoyed the program's best season since 2002, are 13-5 overall and finished the regular season, 6-3 in conference play. This marks the first postseason appearance for UDC since joining the conference in 2012.
Mercy, which finished the regular season with a 13-4 overall record and 7-2 mark in league play, makes its first ECC Tournament appearance since 2013. The Mavericks beat St. Thomas Aquinas College, 1-0 in their regular season finale at home on Saturday, October 28th to lock up the No. 2 seed and the right to host UDC in the semifinals at home where they are 7-0 this season.
UDC dominated the last meeting between these two ECC foes when they met in the nation's capital back on September 16th. The Firebirds erupted for five first half goals and cruised to a 5-0 win that day in what was the 3rd win of a seven-game UDC win streak about midway through the year. Mercy, which fell to 3-3 after that loss, went on to win 10 of its final 11 games to finish the regular season.
In other ECC semifinal action, No. 1 seed LIU Post will host No. 4 seed New York Institute of Technology on Tuesday, October 31st at 1 p.m. The winners of both semifinal games will meet at the site of the higher seed for the championship game on Friday, November 3rd, time to be determined.
