Simon Andersson Earns ECC Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY - Simon Andersson, a freshman on the University of the District of Columbia men's tennis team, has earned East Coast Conference rookie of the week honors, it was announced by the league office on Monday, February 27th.

Andersson (Ystad, Sweden - Sydskanska Gymnasiet) has helped the Firebirds to back-to-back wins to start the spring season by taking both of his singles and doubles matches. In singles play, Andersson defeated Shepherd's Taylor Boyle (6-0, 6-0) and Philadelphia University's Eric Guerrero (8-4). He also teamed with sophomore Aleksandar Grabovac (Ljubljana, Slovenia -Gimnazija Euro Sola Ljubljana) to win both doubles matches on the week.

Grabovac was 1-1 in singles play and 2-0 in doubles play during the Firebirds' two spring matches. He was named to the ECC weekly honor roll for his efforts.

UDC is back in action on Thursday, March 1st when the Firebirds visit Howard at 2:00 p.m.
