FLUSHING, NY – The University of the District of Columbia men's tennis team was defeated, 7-2 by East Coast Conference foe Queens College (NY) on Friday afternoon.
The Firebirds had their three-match win streak snapped as they fell to 3-3 overall this year and 1-1 in league play. Queens improved to 6-4 overall and 2-0 in the ECC with the victory.
Juniors Rok Bozic and Diego Pinto teamed up at No. 1 doubles for an exhilarating, 9-8 (5) win over Queens' No. 1 ranked doubles team in the ITA East Region poll, Roman Laga and Sharvill Nawghre. UDC earned its other point of the match via a No. 6 singles win by freshman Josip Marinic, who outlasted Nicholas Volos, 6-4, 1-6, 10-8 to stay unbeaten in singles play at 4-0 this spring.
UDC will travel a short ways to Sparkill, NY for another ECC battle vs. St. Thomas Aquinas tomorrow, Saturday, April 1st. The match is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
