WEST BABYLON, NY – The University of the District of Columbia's Shemara Jefferson was named East Coast Conference Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the week for her performance in the week ending Sunday, March 4th.
Jefferson, a freshman midfield from Fredricksburg, Virginia, registered seven points on five goals and two assists in the only match of the week against Ohio Valley, which the Firebirds won 16-9.
Jefferson helped the Firebirds reach the program's joint highest scoring total of 16. She has an impressive shots on goal percentage of 86.7 off 13 shots on goal. Jefferson follows two other UDC women's lacrosse players earning the Rookie of the Week honors , Amy Rock and Jada Foy.
The Firebirds (1-1) will be competing for another victory locally at NCAA Division I Howard University on Thursday, March 8th.
