2012 Schedule

WASHINGTON, DC – The defending East Coast Conference champion University of the District of Columbia Firebirds have announced their 2012 women's tennis fall schedule which includes seven conference matches, four non-conference matches and the ITA East Regional Championship tournament.

The Firebirds, who won the school's first ever ECC Championship last fall and advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament Round of 16 last spring, will host ECC foe Dowling to open the 2012 campaign on September 1st at 2:00 p.m. They then visit Rochester, NY to take on ECC newcomer, Roberts Wesleyan on September 7th, and stay in New York the next day to square off against another ECC foe, NYIT.

Next, District of Columbia takes on a non-conference and out of region opponent in Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, WV on September 12th. The Rams, who compete in the Atlantic Region, finished 14-10 overall last year and advanced to the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference semifinals.

After their West Virginia trip, the Firebirds return to the UDC Tennis Courts to host ECC foe St. Thomas Aquinas  on September 14th, followed by a match on the road at ECC rival Queens College on September 16th.

The Firebirds will then play St. Mary's (MD) at home on September 18th as a final tune-up before the ITA East Regional Championships on September 22nd – September 24th in Philadelphia. Last year, Maxime Duijst and Kristyna Nepivodova were crowned the Women's B Doubles Champion at this tournament.

Following the ITA tournament, District of Columbia enters back into ECC play with a road match at Molloy on September 28th. The Firebirds then come home to host LIU Post (formerly CW Post) on September 30th.

This year's ECC Championships tournament will be held at the higher seed on October 5th (Semifinals) and October 6th (Finals). The Firebirds will then wrap up the fall season with a match at Chowan on October 13th.
