UDC Men’s Cross-Country Competes in NCAA Division II Regionals, Finishes Strong

Boston, MA – On November 6th, the UDC Men's Cross-Country team traveled to Boston, Massachusetts to compete in the NCAA Division II Regionals.

In a field stacked with 178 athletes from thirty universities, UDC's Cross-Country runners Hillary Mugun (Nandi Hills, Kenya) and Zephaniah Koech (Nandi Hills, Kenya) competed in the 10-kilometer race at the Regionals.  Mugun finished 42nd with a time of 33:31 minutes, while Koech recorded a personal best time of 34:31 minutes while placing 74th.  Koech's previous personal best was 34:51 minutes, and Head Coach Alton Mckenzie was pleased that Koech was able to rise to the occasion at the NCAA Regionals.

"I'm extremely happy how we ended our season, especially with Zephaniah's [Koech] performance," said Mckenzie.  "To run a personal best in a 10K at the end of your season is impressive. It says a lot of his competitive spirit."  The Firebirds' strong performance at the Regionals left Coach Mckenzie extremely confident in his team for next season.  "I look forward to these two leading UDC's Men's Cross-Country team next year."
