The University of the District of Columbia Announces its 10th Hall of Fame Induction Class
WASHINGTON, DC- The University of the District of Columbia will host it's 10th Athletics Hall of Fame ceremony on February 25th, 2023. This year's ceremony will be a luncheon and will be held in the University's Student Center ballroom, with a start time of 12:00pm.
This year's Induction class features three former student-athletes, Robert Vernard Gates, Lillian McGill Green and Patrice Irby Mabry.
Robert Vernard Gates- Mr. Gates transferred to UDC from St. Augustine's College in the fall of 1974 and graduated in 1979 with a degree in Special Education. He was a member of the men's basketball team during his tenure at UDC. During the 1974-75 season, Robert averaged 10 points per game and was voted first team Potomac Inter-Collegiate Conference (PIC) and was a PIC All-Tournament team selection. During the 1975-76 season he was selected second team PIC. Gates was employed by the District of Columbia Government as a social worker for the W.I.N. program. Subsequent employment included work for Woodridge Elementary School as well as the National Children's Center.
Lillian McGill Green- McGill Green graduated from UDC with a degree in Criminal Justice in 2011. During her four years as a Firebird, she was considered the face of the women's basketball team, served as a leader and accumulated many honors. She was named the Conference of Independent Schools (ICAA) freshman of the year and the ICAA player of the year, all four years at UDC. In 2009 she was the NCAA D2 leader in rebounds and was ranked 48th in the nation in field goal percentage. In 2010-11 she was ranked 13th in the nation in rebounds. A Two-year team captain, McGill Green ended her career with 1,400 points and 1,179 rebounds and currently holds the title of the #1 all-time rebounder at UDC.
Patrice Irby Mabry – Mabry graduated from UDC in 1999 with a degree in Physical Education. She was an All-American in the 55m hurdles back in 1991 and then later served as an assistant coach under Marc Harrison at UDC. She was the head coach at Eastern High School in DC, where she led the team to the 1998 DCIAA Boys Indoor Championship and was also named the 2001 Coach of the year.

Established during the 160thAnniversary of the University of the District of Columbia, the Athletics Hall of Fame honors outstanding individuals and recognizes the University's rich history of intercollegiate athletics, which began in the early 1900s when students attending Miner Teachers College competed in basketball and tennis. Athletics Hall of Fame inductees have significantly contributed to the athletic success and history of the University and its predecessor institutions.
