Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.- The University of the district of Columbia's men's basketball team defeated Mercy College 76-74 in what turned out to be an Overtime battle to the finish. This win was ultimately a team effort as they had ten players contributing points. With this win the Firebirds improved to a 7-9 overall record and 2-2 conference record.
Senior forward Consolo Adams had his highest scoring game of his collegiate career at UDC putting up 18 points and grabbing six rebounds. Juanye Colon led the field with 20 points going 7-21 from the field and 4-14 from the three point line.
The First half started out with the Mavericks on top outscoring the Firebirds 34-29. UDC came back in the second half taking their first lead of the game at 15:09 after a made layup by Kerry Kirkwood. With the game heating up it came down to the last few seconds when Dondre Barnes sunk a three pointer to tie the game and send both teams into overtime.
A layup by Aaren Smith 10 seconds into overtime gave the Firebirds the lead which they kept with the Mavericks no more than three points behind throughout the entire five minutes. In the end UDC claimed victory 76-74.
