Firebirds Battle into Overtime Against Bowie State in Crosstown Clash

Washington, D.C. – The University of the District of Columbia men's basketball team put together a gritty performance in a crosstown rivalry matchup against Bowie State on Saturday afternoon, but the Firebirds ultimately fell in overtime, 70–63, inside the EB Henderson Sports Complex.

UDC held a one-point advantage at halftime (27–26) and continued to fight through a tightly contested second half, leading to a 59–59 deadlock at the end of regulation. Bowie State capitalized in the extra period, outscoring the Firebirds 11–4 to seal the result.

Rejuan Gray led the Firebirds offensively with 15 points on 50% shooting while adding three rebounds, two assists, and two blocks. Oliver Spence came off the bench to score 14 points (5-for-7 FG) to go along with four rebounds and two assists. Kevon Corley chipped in 11 points and pulled down seven rebounds to round out a balanced effort.

The Bulldogs held the advantage on the glass, outrebounding UDC 48–42, leading to 20 second chance points. The Firebirds were also limited to 2-of-13 shooting from three-point range and committed 20 turnovers — key factors Bowie State turned into momentum.

The Firebirds are set to open ECC play on Saturday, taking on St. Thomas Aquinas at the EB Henderson Sports Complex. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM following the women's game.
