Firebirds battle Chestnut Hill in non-conference road matchup

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — The University of the District of Columbia men's basketball team wrapped up its non-conference road swing with an 80–67 setback to Chestnut Hill College on Thursday afternoon at Sorgenti Arena.

UDC stayed within striking distance throughout the opening half, heading into the break down just three, 39–36. The Firebirds shot 45.6 percent from the field in the first half and matched Chestnut Hill's physicality early, but the Griffins pulled away in the second half behind efficient perimeter shooting.

Oliver Spence led the Firebirds with a team-high 15 points, finishing 5-of-9 from the field and a perfect 5-for-5 from the free-throw line. Rejuan Gray and Ty Williams each added 12 points, with Williams also pulling down a team-high seven rebounds.

UDC shot 45.6 percent from the field for the game and converted 75 percent from the free-throw line, but Chestnut Hill capitalized from beyond the arc, knocking down 12 three-pointers to create separation in the second half.

The Firebirds received solid contributions off the bench from Arthur Roache, who scored nine points, and Kevon Corley, who added seven points while shooting a perfect 2-for-2 from the floor.

Thursday's contest marked the final game of the 2025 calendar year for the Firebirds.

UDC will return to action in January, opening the new year at home against Cheyney University on January 3 at the EB Henderson Sports Complex.
