Spence Leads Firebirds in Loss to Roberts Wesleyan

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Dist. Columbia (4-18, 3-11 ECC) fell to Roberts Wesleyan (7-15, 5-8 ECC) with a final score of 66-101 on Wednesday night at the Voller Athletic Center. The Firebirds managed to score 42 points in the paint, but it was not enough to overcome the home team's advantage.

The first half opened with the Firebirds taking an early lead as Arthur Roache and Oliver Spence each scored on layups, giving them a 5-0 advantage. The Redhawks quickly responded with a 3-pointer from Keonjay Carter at the 18:33 mark. As the half progressed, the Redhawks' bench made a significant impact, contributing 23 points, which helped them create distance. Key plays included Jaden Lee's consecutive free throws late in the half, extending the home team's lead. By the end of the half, the Redhawks led 49-27, powered by their efficient shooting, including four made three-pointers, and solid defensive plays, highlighted by four blocks.

The Redhawks maintained control in the second half, extending their lead with a strong offensive performance. Collin Woods led the charge with a dunk at 17:38, followed by a 3-pointer at 11:52, contributing to a 52-point effort in the half. UDC's Spence responded with a layup and a free throw at 17:24, but turnovers and fouls hindered its momentum. Despite a late tip-in by Spence at the buzzer, the Redhawks secured a decisive victory, finishing with a 101-66 final score.

Spence led the team with 20 points, converting 9 of 16 field goal attempts and grabbing eight rebounds. Michael Harrell added 15 points, hitting 5 of 9 shots from the field and collecting six rebounds. Rejuan Gray scored 10 points and contributed three rebounds and two assists. Roache finished with nine points and went 5 for 6 from the free-throw line before fouling out.

Looking ahead, the Firebirds are set to face Molloy on Wednesday, February 25th.
