Henry’s Five-Goal Effort Leads Firebirds in Battle at Virginia State

ETTRICK, VA. – The University of the District of Columbia men's lacrosse team dropped a 12–9 decision to Virginia State on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.

The Firebirds came out strong, jumping to an early 2–0 lead behind a pair of first-quarter goals from Myles Henry. UDC continued its offensive momentum into the second quarter, using a balanced attack to build a 6–3 halftime advantage.

Henry led the way with a standout performance, finishing with a game-high five goals, while Kalam Howlett added two goals and an assist. Alan Fuentes also contributed offensively with two goals and one assist as the Firebirds totaled nine goals on 33 shots.

Virginia State responded in the second half, outscoring UDC 9–3 over the final two quarters, including a six-goal fourth quarter to secure the comeback victory. 

Despite the result, UDC controlled key areas of play, including ground balls (22–18) and faceoffs, where Kelvin Pham went an impressive 17-of-23 at the X. Goalkeeper Israel Amajioyi recorded 11 saves in the effort.

The Firebirds will return to Conference action next Saturday traveling to St Thomas Aquinas College for a 2:30 p.m kick-off.
