Firebirds Earn Road Point in ECC Opener with 0–0 Draw at Mercy

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – The University of the District of Columbia men's soccer team opened East Coast Conference play with a hard-fought 0–0 draw on the road at Mercy University on Saturday afternoon at Mercy Field.

Both sides created chances, but neither could find the back of the net in the tightly contested conference matchup. UDC tallied four total shots, with three on target, while Mercy posted 13 shots, also placing three on frame.

Goalkeeper Sergio Becerra anchored the Firebirds' defense, recording three saves en route to his first shutout of the season.

The Firebirds' back line remained disciplined throughout the match despite Mercy applying heavy second-half pressure, keeping the Mavericks off the board and securing a valuable point to begin ECC play.

The Firebirds (3-1-1, 0-0-1 ECC) close out their three-game road swing at St Thomas Aquinas College next Saturday, September 27.
