UDC Men’s Soccer Collects Three ECC Weekly Awards Following Back-to-Back Wins
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of the District of Columbia men's soccer team dominated this week's East Coast Conference awards, earning three honors following an impressive stretch that included victories over Virginia State and D'Youville.
Senior forward Brandon Johnson was named the ECC Offensive Player of the Week, senior goalkeeper Sergio Becerra earned ECC Defensive Player of the Week, and freshman forward Yamah Nawabi was named to the ECC Weekly Honor Roll for their standout performances that fueled UDC's momentum.
Johnson led the Firebirds' attack, recording two goals and one assist in UDC's 4–0 road win at Virginia State. The senior standout opened the scoring and later netted his second of the match while assisting on another goal, helping the Firebirds secure their first road win of the season.
Becerra anchored UDC's defense across both victories, totaling seven saves while allowing just one goal over 180 minutes of play. He earned a clean sheet in the win over Virginia State and followed with another strong showing in the 2–1 conference victory over D'Youville, including several key stops late to preserve the lead.
Nawabi, a freshman, continued to impress in his debut season, tallying three assists in the win at Virginia State — including both setups on Johnson's goals and another on Alexander Stevens-Lee's first career Firebird finish.
The Firebirds (5–3–2, 1–2–2 ECC) return to action on Tuesday, October 15, when they host Caldwell University at 3:00 PM at the UDC Sports Complex.
