Moody-Stuart Named ECC Rookie of the Week; Becerra Earns Honor Roll Recognition
Washington, D.C. – The University of the District of Columbia men's soccer program earned two East Coast Conference weekly honors, as freshman midfielder Alexander Moody-Stuart was named the ECC Rookie of the Week, and senior goalkeeper Sergio Becerra earned a spot on the ECC Weekly Honor Roll, announced Monday by the league office.
Moody-Stuart continued his standout debut season with another clutch performance, scoring the game-winning goal in UDC's 1–0 road victory at Staten Island. The freshman midfielder converted off a well-placed corner in the 70th minute — his third goal of the season, all of which have been game-winners. His consistent impact has helped propel the Firebirds during their late-season surge, which has now extended to six straight unbeaten matches.
Becerra, a senior captain, was once again dominant in goal, recording back-to-back shutouts during the week. The Spain native tallied six total saves across two matches — including a composed performance in Saturday's 1–0 Senior Day win over Daemen, where the Firebirds clinched a postseason berth in the ECC Championship Tournament. Becerra currently leads the conference in shutouts (4) and ranks among the top goalkeepers in save percentage and goals-against average.
The Firebirds (7–3–3, 3–2–2 ECC) are unbeaten in their last six matches and return to action on Tuesday, October 29th, when they travel to Jefferson University for their final non-conference match of the season.
