DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – #5 District of Columbia men's soccer team is moving on in the postseason after earning a dramatic 1-0 overtime victory over #4 Mercy University in the East Coast Conference first round on Wednesday afternoon.
The Firebirds (9-3-4, 3-2-3 ECC) extended their unbeaten streak to nine straight matches and advanced to the ECC Semifinals for the third consecutive season and the fifth time in program history.
After 90 minutes of scoreless play, Alexander Moody-Stuart delivered the golden goal in the 99th minute, firing home a rebound off a shot from Alexander Stevens-Lee to send UDC through to the next round.
Goalkeeper Sergio Becerra was stellar once again, posting six saves to record his ECC leading seventh shutout of the season.
The Firebirds advance to the ECC Semifinals and will travel to #1Queens College on Saturday, November 8, for a spot in the conference championship match. The match is slated to begin at 7:00pm. More details to follow.
