FLUSHING, NY – The University of the District of Columbia Men's Tennis team fought valiantly but ultimately fell to St. Thomas Aquinas, 4-0, in the East Coast Conference Semifinals on Friday afternoon at the QC Indoor Tennis Bubble.

In doubles action, the Firebirds came out strong with high energy across all courts. The No. 2 doubles team of Oskar Karos and Filippo Vatteroni was the first match to finish, falling to Don Vinz Lominoque and Takumi Kuroda of STAC, 6-3. At No. 1 doubles, UDC's top duo of Louis Mangeon and Louka Queguiner responded with a huge win, defeating Seth Newman and Henry Ronnberg, 6-4, to even the doubles competition. The doubles point came down to No. 3 doubles, where Sebastiano Palma and Elouan Queguiner battled but were edged 7-5 by Victor Tauson and Ondrej Sramek, giving STAC the early 1-0 advantage.

n singles play, the Firebirds battled on every court. The match at No. 6 singles was the first to finish, with STAC's Henry Ronnberg defeating Sebastiano Palma, 6-1, 6-0. Shortly after, at No. 3 singles, Victor Tauson of STAC overcame a strong first set from Elouan Queguiner to win 7-5, 6-1, pushing the Spartans to a 3-0 lead.

Ghali Ouajahat Filali showed heart at No. 5 singles, splitting the first two sets with Ondrej Sramek before falling 7-5, 1-6, 6-1, which clinched the match for St. Thomas Aquinas at 4-0.

The remaining singles matches at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 4 were abandoned once the overall result was decided. Louis Mangeon was battling Seth Newman, trailing 5-7, 3-5, while Louka Queguiner was in a tight contest with Lorenzo Meschini, locked at 5-7, 4-4. Oskar Karos was also engaged in a close second set against Don Vinz Lominoque before the match was called.

UDC (8-8) will now await the final regional selections for the NCAA Tournament on May 5. The Firebirds currently sit at 5th and if the rankng holds they will compete in th Regional tournament set for May 9 & 10.
