Firebirds Battle but Fall to Chestnut Hill in Non-Conference Matchup
PHILADELPHIA, PA. – The University of the District of Columbia men's tennis team dropped a 5–2 decision to Chestnut Hill College in non-conference action.
The Griffins secured the doubles point, taking two of three matches to open the contest. UDC's pairing of Filippo Vatteroni and Ambrose Evamy earned a 6–3 victory at the No. 2 position to highlight doubles play.
In singles competition, the Firebirds picked up two hard-fought wins. At No. 2 singles, Evamy outlasted Enzo Puppi in a tightly contested match, earning a 6-4, 3-6, 1-0(11) victory in a third-set super tiebreak.
Vatteroni also delivered a resilient performance at No. 3 singles, rallying after dropping the opening set to secure a 4-6, 7-6(3), 1-0(5) win.
Chestnut Hill claimed the remaining singles matches to secure the team victory.
The Firebirds will travel to Frostburg State next Wednesday for a non-conference matchup, with first serve set for 2:00 p.m..
