UDC Women Trounce Columbia Union, 40-65
Takoma Park, MD: February 16, 2009—Senior guard LaQuanda Brandon (Washington, DC) led the 18th ranked University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Women’s Basketball Team to a, 40-65, trouncing of the Columbia Union College Pioneers tonight in Takoma Park, Maryland, at the Pit. Brandon scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds in pacing the team to the win.
Senior guard DeVaughn Hailey (Camden, NJ)
also scored in double digits, knocking down 12 points, collecting
six rebounds and dishing out one assist. Sophomore guard Tamonica
Brackins (Alexandria, VA) added 9 points, eight rebounds and one
assist to the winning effort. Junior guards Nicole Cooper (Ft.
Washington, MD) and Tamara Watkins (Penns Grove, NJ) followed with
7 points apiece.
UDC shot 32% (23-73) from the field while Columbia Union shot 27% (14-52). The Firebirds forced the Pioneers into 28 turnovers.
UDC is now 21-4 for the season, while
Columbia Union remains winless at 0-23. UDC returns to action
on February 19, against the Shaw University Bears in Raleigh, North
Carolina.
