Women's Basketball Seniors Honored
The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics honored four members of its Firebird Women’s Basketball Team who are seniors and played in their final home basketball game last Saturday, during Senior Day ceremonies. LaQuanda Brandon, Jessica Edwards, DeVaughn Hailey, and Deyshia Williams played in their final home game, helping to defeat the University of the Sciences-Philadelphia, 61-51. UDC Athletics Director Patricia Thomas and Head Women’s Basketball Coach Lester L. Butler, Jr., presented each senior their framed uniform and teammates gave them other gifts. “We thank these young ladies for their outstanding contribution to the Women’s Basketball Team, in particular, and the advancement of the UDC Intercollegiate Athletics Program in general”, said Athletics Director Thomas.
LaQuanda Brandon of Washington, DC is in
her first and final year with the Women’s Basketball program
since transferring from the University of Rhode Island. In
her short time here, LaQuanda has made a big impression on the
program. A leader by example, LaQuanda takes charge on
the court with her play making abilities. Those abilities have lead
to her scoring close to 300 pts and grabbing close to 70 rebounds,
while collecting 60 steals this season. LaQuanda, who already
holds a Bachelor Degree in Sociology from the University of Rhode
Island, is currently pursuing a degree in computer sciences
at UDC.
Career Totals: 289 pts, 68 rebounds, 60 steals.
Jessica Edwards of Chicago, IL has been a
mainstay in the Women’s Basketball program for the past 3
seasons after transferring from Delaware State University.
Known for her blazing speed and quickness, Jessica has played big
minutes for the Firebirds at point guard. In her time
here she has scored over 200 points while dishing out over 160
assists, collecting over a 100 steals and grabbing over 130
rebounds, and helping to win 53 games for the
Firebirds. Jessica will graduate in May with a degree in
massc ommunications. She is escorted today by Dawn

Career Totals: 210pts, 162 assists, 114 steals, 131 rebounds, 53
wins.
DeVaughn Hailey of Camden, NJ has been
a two- year member of the Women’s Basketball program since
transferring from Palm Beach Community College. A true
competitor on the court, DeVaughn brings a toughness
that’s unmatched by many in college basketball. In her
time here she has accounted for over 440 pts, dished out over 170
assists, collected over 90 steals while grabbing over 130 rebounds
and helping to win 40 games for the Firebirds. DeVaughn
will graduate in the summer with a degree in health
education. She is escorted today by her parents, Michelle
Hailey & Vaughn Williams. Ladies and gentleman DeVaughn

Career Totals: 441pts, 173 assists, 94 steals, 139 rebounds.
Deyshia Williams of Camden, NJ has been a
two- year member of the Women’s Basketball program since
transferring from Central Florida Community College.
Versatilty is the best way to describe Deyshia’s
ability. Able to hurt opponents outside with her jump shot or
inside with her strength, Deyshia has used those tools to score
over 430 pts and to collect over 260 rebounds while helping
towin 40 games as a
Firebird. Deyshia will graduate in May with a degree in
sociology. She is escorted today by her mother Crystal Williams.
