Washington, DC- The University of the District of Columbia's Women's Basketball team announced its 2019-20 schedule. Head Coach John Nakpodia also welcomes new assistant coach Jasmine Rich and five new additions going into his third year.
The Firebirds have seven returning student-athletes including this year's team captains Maya Thomas and Mia Boyd. They welcome new comers, Hunter Rowson, Latavia Jackson, Alexus King, Halia Ellis and Kayla Moore.
"We are very excited for the upcoming season," said Coach Nakpodia. "I think this is one of the most talented and deepest teams we've had in years. Our returning players have improved a lot since last season, and we have added some talented newcomers. I think we will surprise a lot of teams this year."
The Firebirds are set to start their season on Friday November 8thwhere they will face off against Dominican College. They will only host two home games in November one on the 16thagainst Southern Conn. St. and the other on the 23rdagainst Bloomfield College.
UDC will begin conference play on December 7thwhere they will host Molloy College and then head on the road to face off against Bridgeport and New York Tech. In January they will host five out of the seven games they have planned and will finish out the regular season with back to back conference games.
The Firebirds were ranked to place 9thin the ECC's Preseason Poll.
