Firebirds Edged by Spartans in Low Scoring ECC Matchup

WASHINGTON, DC.- The University of the District of Columbia's women's basketball team fell to St Thomas Aquinas College 52-45, Wednesday evening at the UDC Gymnasium. The Firebirds fell to 7-7 on the season and 3-2 in ECC play, and the Spartans improved to 4-9, 3-1 in the conference.

Tori Williams led the Firebird offense with 15 points while also grabbing seven rebounds, three blocks, and two steals. Ronnasia Blatch-Huggins narrowly missed a double-double scoring nine points, grabbing 11 rebounds, three steals, and three blocks.

Both teams struggled from the field with the visiting Spartans shooting at 29.9% and the Firebirds at 26.4%. After fighting their way back from the first quarter deficit UDC managed to tie the game 22-22 going into the half. A rough third quarter for the home team would seal their fate, as both teams matched up evenly in the last quarter.

UDC (7-7, 3-2 ECC) will be on the road for the rest of the month. They will travel to Mercy on Saturday, to face off against the Mavericks at 12:00 pm. The game will be live-streamed on the ECC network.
