WASHINGTON, DC- The University of the District of Columbia's women's basketball team fell to Molloy College 63-55, in the UDC Gymnasium Wednesday night. The Firebirds fell to 9-10, 5-5 in conference play and the Lions improved to 9-8, 6-4 on the season.
Ronnasia Blatch-Huggins led the Firebirds with a double-double off 19 points and 11 rebounds. Teammate Latavia Jackson also contributed double-figure scoring with 13 points.
UDC got off to a slow start in the first quarter with Molloy out scoring them 20-13. This deficit would end up plaguing the home team, because despite identical scoring in the second, third and fourth quarters, it wasn't enough to get over the hump and past the Lions.
The Firebirds shot at 23.9% from the field and the Lions shot at 37.3%. UDC had more second chance points and points off turnovers but Molloy out scored them in the paint 36-16.
Next up UDC (9-10, 5-5) will head to N.Y. on Saturday to face off against Queens College in their second and last conference showdown of the regular season. Tip off is set for 3:30pm and will be live streamed on the ECC network.
