UDC Women's Basketball Fall to Daemen College 82-72

WASHINGTON, DC- The University of the District of Columbia's women's basketball team wrapped up their busy week with a tough 82-72 loss to regionally-ranked Daemen College, Sunday afternoon at the UDC Gymnasium. The Firebirds fell to 11-13, 7-8 in ECC play while the Wildcats improved to 15-3, 13-0 in league play on the season.

UDC featured three double-figure scorers which included Latavia Jackson, Ronnasia Blatch-Huggins, and Destiny Ryles. Jackson came off the bench to lead her team offensively with 18 points while adding five rebounds and two steals. She was followed by teammate Blatch-Huggins who also came off the bench to add 16 points, five rebounds, two steals, and two blocks. Ryles rounded out the double-figure scoring registering 13 points while adding team-highs of six assists and three steals.

The visiting Wildcats made an early separation from the Firebirds knocking down 5 three-pointers in the opening minutes of play. They would take a 41-29 point lead going into the half forcing UDC to play catchup coming off the break.

The home team rallied to have their best scoring quarter in the fourth outscoring Daemen 25-22 but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit made in the first half.

The Wildcats outrebounded the Firebirds 45-29 and shot at 45.3% from the field while UDC shot at 40.9%. UDC had more points off turnovers (20-9) more bench points (44-16) and more points in the paint (48-30).

UDC (11-13, 7-8 ECC) will be back in action next Saturday the 19th, as they host the College of Staten Island in the first round of a conference double-header. Tip-off is set for 1:00 pm.
