Aiyana Ellis Named ECC Co-Defensive Player of the Week; Nhaikyia Smith Earns Spot on Honor Roll

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The East Coast Conference announced its first weekly women's basketball awards on Monday, and the University of the District of Columbia earned two honors following a dominant 2–0 week. Aiyana Ellis was named ECC Co-Defensive Player of the Week, while Nhaikyia Smith secured a place on the ECC Weekly Honor Roll.

Ellis anchored the Firebirds on both ends of the court, helping UDC hold its opponents to just 36.5 points per game across the week. She averaged 9.5 rebounds, 1.5 blocks, 1.5 steals, and 11 points per game, showcasing her presence in the paint and ability to control the defensive glass. Her efficiency and consistency were pivotal in UDC's victories over Goldey-Beacom and Wilmington.

Smith earned Honor Roll recognition after delivering an all-around standout performance. She averaged 12.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.5 steals per game. In the win over Wilmington, Smith led the way with 21 points, 11 rebounds, 4 steals, and 3 assists.
