FROSTBURG, Md- The University of the District of Columbia women's basketball team dropped a 69–61 decision on the road Monday evening, despite a strong fourth-quarter push.
Frostburg State edged ahead early and carried a 36–31 lead into halftime. The Bobcats used a 14–8 third quarter to create separation, and although UDC outscored Frostburg State 22–19 in the final frame, the comeback bid fell short.
Aiyana Ellis paced the Firebirds with an all-around performance, finishing with 16 points, seven rebounds and five blocks while shooting 5-for-11 from the floor. Calista Gaymon provided a spark off the bench with 18 points, including four three-pointers. Dashani Coleman added 14 points and a pair of threes.
UDC shot 35.9% from the field and knocked down seven three-pointers, while Frostburg State shot 42.9%, including eight makes from beyond the arc. The Bobcats held a 46–25 advantage on the boards, which proved pivotal down the stretch.
The Firebirds return to action on Wednesday when they travel to face Virginia Union in another non-conference matchup.
