Ellis Named ECC Player of the Week; Todd Earns Rookie of the Week Honors
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of the District of Columbia women's basketball program earned major conference recognition as Aiyana Ellis was named East Coast Conference Player of the Week, while LeAsia Todd collected ECC Rookie of the Week honors, the conference announced on Monday.
Ellis powered the Firebirds during a 2–0 week, averaging 14.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game. She was dominant on the defensive glass, pulling down 14 defensive rebounds, and delivered a standout performance in UDC's win over Lincoln (Pa.), posting a game-high 22 points to go along with 13 rebounds, three steals, and two blocks.
Todd emerged as a force in the paint during the undefeated week, averaging 10.0 rebounds per game, 1.0 block per game, and 8.0 points per contest while shooting an efficient 70 percent from the field. In the victory over Elizabeth City State, the freshman recorded her first collegiate double-double, finishing with a game-high 11 rebounds, while adding two blocks and a steal.
