AMHERST, N.Y. – The University of the District of Columbia women's basketball team dropped a 67–54 decision to Daemen University on Friday evening at Lumsden Gymnasium in East Coast Conference action.
UDC (5-9, 1-3 ECC) stayed within striking distance early, trailing by just 15–10 after the first quarter before Daemen built a 36–22 lead at halftime. The Firebirds responded with their strongest stretch in the third quarter, outscoring Daemen 20–15, but were unable to close the gap in the final frame.
Aiyana Ellis led the Firebirds with 13 points and 11 rebounds, recording a double-double while adding a block and a steal. Aliyah Eason provided a spark off the bench with 12 points, including two three-pointers, and dished out five assists.
Kristian Harris finished with 10 points, while LeAsia Todd added five points and seven rebounds. Maya Johnson also contributed seven points and seven rebounds, helping UDC compete on the glass.
The Firebirds forced 17 turnovers and finished the game with 39 rebounds, but Daemen controlled the glass with 47 rebounds while forcing 21 UDC turnovers. They capitalized at the free-throw line and maintained control down the stretch to secure the conference victory.
The Firebirds will continue their upstate New York road trip, traveling to D'Youville on Sunday for another East Coast Conference matchup. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
