Firebirds Come Up Short at D’Youville in Conference Road Matchup

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University of the District of Columbia women's basketball team dropped a 68–60 decision to D'Youville University on Sunday afternoon at the Saints Center Gym in East Coast Conference action.

UDC (5-10, 1-4 ECC) opened the game with energy and efficiency, building a 22–13 lead after the first quarter and carrying a 38–31 advantage into halftime. The Firebirds shot confidently in the opening half and controlled the tempo early, but D'Youville responded after the break, using defensive pressure and timely scoring to swing momentum.

The Saints outscored UDC 18–10 in the third quarter to take the lead, then closed the game by holding the Firebirds to 12 points in the fourth, limiting second-chance opportunities and converting at the free-throw line down the stretch.

Aiyana Ellis led the Firebirds with 16 points, adding six assists, four rebounds, two blocks, and a steal in a well-rounded performance. Kristian Harris followed with 14 points, knocking down three three-pointers while also contributing two steals and two blocks.

Nhaikyia Smith added 11 points, along with three rebounds and three steals, while Dashani Coleman finished with 11 points and four rebounds. UDC placed four players in double figures, highlighting a balanced offensive effort.

The Firebirds return home on Wednesday for an East Coast Conference matchup against Mercy University. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. at the UDC Sports Complex.
