UDC Women’s Lacrosse Falls in Home Contest vs. Mercy

Washington, DC – The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds fell to Mercy College, 23-2, in an East Coast Conference matchup Saturday afternoon at the UDC Field. Despite a valiant second-half effort, UDC was unable to hold off Mercy's high-powered offense, which struck early and often.

Mercy set the tone from the opening draw, netting 11 goals in the first quarter alone and never relinquishing momentum.

The Firebirds battled back in the second half, with junior Michelle Mitchell putting UDC on the board with an unassisted goal midway through the third quarter. Graduate student Jada Williams added a second goal early in the fourth, assisted by Najee Gunter.

Goalkeeper Natalia Perkins recorded five saves in the full 60 minutes of action. UDC totaled four ground balls and five draw controls, with Gunter and Williams contributing to the defensive effort.

Mercy outshot UDC 30-2 and held a 20-4 advantage in ground balls. The Mavericks committed just three turnovers, compared to ten for the Firebirds.

UDC (1-8, 0-4 ECC) will host St Thomas Aquinas on April 27th for Senior Day.
