WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of the District of Columbia women's lacrosse team fell to D'Youville University 23–1 on Saturday morning in the Firebirds' East Coast Conference opener at the UDC Turf Field.
D'Youville set the tone early, scoring ten goals in the opening quarter and building a 14–1 advantage by halftime.
The Firebirds broke through late in the second quarter when Jada Williams found the back of the net off an assist from Gabriela Martinez, accounting for UDC's lone goal of the contest.
Williams led the Firebirds offensively with five shots and three shots on goal, while Martinez recorded the team's lone assist.
Defensively, goalkeeper Natalia Perkins recorded 12 saves while facing a high volume of shots from the Saints' offense.
The Firebirds will return to the road next weekend as they travel to Daemen University for an East Coast Conference matchup scheduled for next Saturday.
