UDC Women's Tennis Win Streak Snapped by Spartans

Washington, D.C. -The University of the District of Columbia women's tennis team suffered their first loss of the season, falling 6-1 to St. Thomas Aquinas College (STAC) on Wednesday. Despite some hard-fought matches, the Firebirds were unable to overcome the strong performance of the reigning ECC Champsions, moving to a 5-1 overall record and 3-1 in ECC play.

Doubles:

  • UDC's No. 2 doubles pair, Claudia Bahamon Lopez and Célia Bastin, secured the Firebirds' only doubles win with a 6-3 victory over Brons/Kryuchkova (STAC).
  • STAC's top pair, Silins/Fyvie, narrowly edged out UDC's Desire Parn and Polina Zelentsova in a tiebreaker, 7-6(3), while the STAC duo of Caneves/Semmartin claimed a 6-1 win over UDC's Benjelloun/Zmukic at No. 3 doubles, securing the doubles point for the Spartans.

Up next, UDC (5-1, 3-1 ECC) will look to bounce back in their final ECC match up of the season against Queens College tomorrow at home. The match is slated to begin at 11:00am.
