UDC Women’s Tennis Edged Out by Jefferson 4-3
Philadelphia, Pa.- The University of the District of Columbia women's tennis team faced a narrow 4-3 defeat against Jefferson University on Wednesday in a highly competitive match. Despite strong individual performances, the Firebirds were edged out, dropping their season record to 6-2 overall.
Doubles:
- Jefferson's top pair, Alycia Veroux and Nicole Hrbkova, defeated UDC's duo of Desire Parn and Polina Zelentsova 7-5 in a hard-fought battle at No. 1 doubles.
- UDC's Célia Bastin and Lina Benjelloun responded with a 7-6(4) victory over Emily Frost and Zenia Barretto at No. 2 doubles.
- Jefferson secured the doubles point as UDC was forced to default at No. 3 doubles.
Singles:
- At No. 1 singles, Alycia Veroux outlasted UDC's Desire Parn in a three-set thriller, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.
- Polina Zelentsova earned a strong 6-4, 6-4 win over Nicole Hrbkova at No. 2 singles.
- Célia Bastin delivered a 6-2, 6-3 win against Anna Morgillo at No. 3 singles, while Nadja Zmukic claimed a come-from-behind victory at No. 5 singles, defeating Zenia Barretto 1-6, 7-5, 1-0(3).
- Jefferson's Rose Huang won at No. 4 singles, defeating Lina Benjelloun 7-6(4), 6-0, while Emily Frost earned an uncontested win at No. 6 singles due to UDC's default.

Up next, UDC ( 6 - 2, 4 - 1 ECC) will host Salem University on Friday to close out the regular season. The match is slated to begin at 2:00pm.
