Firebirds Open Conference Play with Dominant 6–1 Win Over Daemen
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of the District of Columbia women's tennis team opened East Coast Conference play in style, earning a commanding 6–1 victory over Daemen University on Saturday afternoon at the UDC Tennis Courts.
The Firebirds took control early, securing the doubles point behind strong performances from their top pairings. Célia Bastin and Polina Zelentsova cruised to a 6–1 win at No. 1 doubles, while Lina Benjelloun and Nadja Zmukic clinched the point with a 6–4 victory at No. 2.
UDC carried that momentum into singles play, dominating across the lineup. Polina Zelentsova, Célia Bastin, Lina Benjelloun, Sofiia Shaparenko, and Nadja Zmukic all recorded straight-set victories — dropping just three total games combined in the final four singles matches.
With the win, the Firebirds improve to 3–1 overall and 1–0 in ECC play.
UDC will be back in action tomorrow (Saturday) for another East Coast Conference matchup, hosting D'Youville University at the UDC Tennis Courts.
