Shaparenko Named ECC Player of the Week; Zmukic Earns Honor Roll Recognition
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of the District of Columbia women's tennis team earned recognition from the East Coast Conference, as Sofiia Shaparenko was named ECC Player of the Week, while Nadja Zmukic secured a spot on the ECC Honor Roll.
Shaparenko delivered a standout performance against Queens, going undefeated in both singles and doubles play. She teamed up with Lina Benjelloun to earn a 6-4 victory at No. 2 doubles over Goubet/Bizouerne (QC). In singles action, Shaparenko battled to a hard-fought win at the No. 4 position, defeating Regina Ruiz (QC) 6-0, 6-7(3), 1-0(3). Her strong play played a key role in the Firebirds' competitive showing.
Zmukic also turned in a strong week, finishing 2-1 overall and undefeated in singles play. She earned a 6-2, 7-5 victory at No. 5 singles against Frostburg State's Ella Troxell, before following it up with another dominant performance against conference opponent Kayla Taszymowicz (QC), winning 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 5 position.
