Firebirds Indoor Track & Field Returns to Action at Armory Collegiate Challenge Saturday
NEW YORK, NY - The women's indoor track & field team will travel to The Armory in New York, NY to partake in the Armory Collegiate Challenge Saturday night, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Since the meet's inception, it has showcased local collegians, as well as athletes from as far as Puerto Rico and Canada. This year's field includes nine Division I teams, five Division II teams, and two Division III teams. Some of the participating teams of note are University of Pennsylvania, Princeton, and UConn.
Coach Alton McKenzie said that with this being the team's first meet since the season opener in early December, the team is looking to get back into competition shape.
"The team has trained hard since our return so we're looking to see what that preparation yields," McKenzie said. "The Manhattan Armory is a fast bank track, so we're looking forward to taking advantage of that and seeing where we are with our training. We're looking forward to getting back to competing consistently and a meet at the Armory is a great way to start off the year."
Recently, the Firebirds were ranked No. 20 in Division II for the 4x400M Relay event in the USTFCCCA pre-season event rankings. They currently sit two spots behind Holy Family, who is also competing in this meet on Saturday night. The 4x400M Relay event is set to start at 9:55 p.m.
