Firebirds Excel at HBCU Classic, Highlighted by Standout Performances by Cooper and Kouami

NEW YORK, N.Y.- The University of the District of Columbia women's track and field team delivered impressive performances at the HBCU Showcase with Kayla Cooper and Emmanuela Katou Kouami posting standout performances that now rank among the best in NCAA Division II this season.

Meet Highights

  • Kayla Cooper 
    • Finished 2nd in the Long Jump with a leap of 5.61m (18-05.00) which ranks her #42 in Division II and first in the ECC. 
    • Recorded a time of 25.64 in the 200m, placing 21st in a competitive field of 92- which is an ECC season best.
  • Emmanuela Katou Kouami
    • Placed 6th place in the Weight Throw with a another school record and personal best mark of 15.40m (50-06.25), ranking #78 in the NCAA Division II standings. This mark is tied for first in the East Region. 

Additional Top Performances

Iyanna Jackson clocked in at 7.85s, in the 60m and ran a season best 26.27s in the 200m. Ayesha Jarrett and Dayna Thompson also finished with times of 26.51s and 26.64s.

Kayleigh Shelton ran a season best time of 9.34s in the 60m hurdles which is the 4th best mark in the ECC this season.

The Firebirds are off next weekend but will be back in action the following week, competing at the Winter Relay in Lexington Va, on the 31st.
