San Angelo, TX: May 23, 2009—The University of the District of Columbia Outdoor Track & Field Team performed well in the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships Finals in San Angelo, Texas, today. Although none of the component teams or individual runners won their particular event, they gave it their best in representing the University. UDC had seven All American performances, including senior sprinter Maurisa Williams' becoming a three- time All American, while senior sprinter Cottrell Martin and sophomore sprinter Saleena Green picked up their second in outdoor track & field.

The 4x400 meter relay team gave the best performance of the group, finishing in 3rd place with the time of 3:42.81. The team out- paced perennial champion St. Augustine’s College, trailing only Angelo State and the winner, powerhouse Lincoln University- Missouri.  Members of the team are senior sprinter Cottrell Martin (Freeport, Bahamas), who ran the first leg, All American freshman sprinter Kaneesha Hollis (Greensboro, MD), second leg, All American sophomore sprinter Saleena Green (St. Catherine, Jamaica), third leg, and anchoring the team was senior sprinter Maurisa Williams (Sicklerville, NJ).

Maurisa Williams represented the University in the 400 meter dash, finishing 6th in the race. Her time was 54.47, which was her personal best.

All American junior runner Stellah Sang (Kapsabet, Kenya) competed in the 800 meter run, finishing 8th in the field.  The 4x100 meter relay team finished in 7th place in the finals. The team is comprised of All-American sophomore sprinter Erica Nixon (Bronx, NY), senior sprinter Cottrell Martin (Freeport, Bahamas), All American sophomore sprinter Saleena Green (St. Catherine, Jamaica), and senior sprinter Maurisa Williams (Sicklerville, NJ).

UDC Track & Field Head Coach Marc J. Harrison summed up his team’s efforts at the NCAA, saying, "I am so proud of these ladies... the season ended on a VERY positive note.  This is only my third year and we've had 7 All Americans.  We could have done better, and the ladies were disappointed in some of the performances.  That shows the character of those ladies.  I told them 'hey you’re an All American' and they tell me that we should have done better. My staff is the best staff in the country! We put together something special, and the ladies finished the story...we were a crowd favorite as the underdog in the finals with those traditional D2 powerhouses, you could hear people screaming 'GO UDC!!!' all over the stadium..."
