Track & Field Team Competes at Johnson C. Smith
Charlotte, NC: April 10, 2010—The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Women’s Track & Field Team competed in the Johnson C. Smith University’s Invitational Track & Field Meet in Charlotte, North Carolina, today. Solid performances came from the 4x400 meter relay team, which finished in third place in the event, with the time of 3:52.58.
Members of the 4x400 relay team were All-American sophomore Latoya Allen (Washington, DC/Dunbar Senior High School), junior Demia Franklin (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor Senior High School), two-time All-American junior Saleena Green (Kingston, Jamaica/St. Andrew Senior High School for Girls), and two-time All-American sophomore Kaneesha Hollis (Centreville, MD/North Caroline Senior High School).
Also giving a solid performance for the Firebirds was junior Dicoda Waugh (Kingston, Jamaica/St. Andrew Senior High School for Girls), who finished in 3rd place in the women triple jump. Waugh jumped the distance of 11.13 meters. Head Coach Jasmine Rogers summed up her thoughts about recent team performances saying, “I’m really pleased with the progress we’re making. The team has been working really hard, and it’s starting to pay off.”
The Firebirds continue their oval performances on April 17, at the Morgan State University Legacy Meet in Baltimore, Maryland.
