UDC Women’s Track & Field Delivers Breakthrough Performances at Latest Outdoor Meet

Baltimore, Md- The University of the District of Columbia women's track & field team continued to show its depth and determination during a strong weekend performance marked by personal bests and top finishes across multiple events at the Morgn State Legacy Meet.

Samantha Morrison had an excellent showing, finishing 2nd in the 800m with a new personal record of 2:15.64, and placing 4th in the 400m hurdles with a PR of 1:06.68. Freshman Yalix Lina also contributed with two PRs—1:01.08 in the 400m and 1:07.76 in the 400m hurdles.

In the 200m dash, Junior Tukey Francis led the Firebirds with a season-best 25.53, followed by Kayla Cooper (25.59), and Iyanna Jackson (25.95). Francis also ran the 400m dash, finishing 19th with a season-best time of 59.91 seconds.

Freshman Kyndra Hines clocked in at 14.80 seconds to place ninth in the prelims of the 100m hurdles. Kayleigh Shelton followed close behind with a 15.14 finish. Hines also competed in the 200m with a season-best time of 26.23

In field events, Emmanuela Katou Kouami recorded a season-best in the discus throw, placing 8th with a mark of 38.53m (126-05). She also threw 10.16m in the shot put. Ryana Goldson placed second in the javelin with a season-best mark of 29.94m (98-02).

The Firebirds are back in action at the Penn Relays to be held April 24th-25th.
