Firebirds Deliver Strong Performances Across Events at Morgan State Legacy Meet
BALTIMORE, Md. – The University of the District of Columbia women's track & field team turned in a series of strong performances across both track and field events at the Morgan State Legacy Meet, highlighted by multiple personal and season best finishes.
Leading the way for the Firebirds was Kayleigh Shelton, who delivered a standout performance in the 100m hurdles. Shelton placed second overall in the finals with a personal-best time of 14.43. She advanced to the finals after clocking 14.62 in the prelims. In her first time in 400m hurdles she also clocked in at
In the field events, Emmanuela Katou-Kouami continued her dominant season in the hammer throw, placing third with a mark of 49.89m. Zoe Shaw also impressed, clearing 1.65m in the high jump to finish fifth overall. Shaw also added a sixth-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 11.55m.
Samantha Morrison recorded a strong third-place finish in the 800m with a time of 2:14.15, continuing her consistent impact in middle-distance events. Morrison also competed in the 400m hurdles, finishing ninth.
Tukey Francis led the Firebirds in the sprints, clocking 25.02 in the 200m and adding a season-best 58.23 in the 400m.
Kyndra Hines and Kayla Cooper both delivered solid sprint performances, competing in both the 100m and 200m. Hines posted a 25.12 in the 200m, while Cooper followed closely with a 25.29. In the 100m, the duo clocked 12.28 and 12.31, respectively.
Ryana Goldson had a strong showing with a fourth-place finish in the javelin (33.46m).
Next up, UDC heads to Philadelphia, Pa. for the prestigious Penn Relays next week as the Firebirds continue their outdoor season.
