ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY – The University of the District of Columbia men's lacrosse team faced a tall challenge on Saturday afternoon as they took on ECC powerhouse and nationally-ranked Molloy University. The Firebirds battled to the final whistle but ultimately fell, 29-3, at the RVC Sports Complex.
UDC got on the board early thanks to a strong individual effort from Dylan Donaldson, who scored unassisted at 6:58 in the first quarter to make it a 2-1 game in favor of the Lions. Alan Fuentes and Julian Schemm added fourth-quarter goals, also unassisted, to cap UDC's scoring.
Despite the final scoreline, goalkeeper Israel Amajioyi stood tall in net, making 22 saves on 51 shots on goal, withstanding a relentless Molloy attack that registered 66 total shots and 29 goals. Amajioyi's performance was a bright spot in the Firebirds' defensive effort, supported by ground ball recoveries from defenders Shelton Tessier (2), Patrick Nyarko (1), and Ignacio Pericet (3).
UDC struggled in the face-off circle, winning just 4 of 35 face-offs, a key area of dominance for the Lions. Molloy's attack was spearheaded by Noah Taylor (4 goals, 2 assists) and Justin Palulis (4 goals, 1 assist), as the Lions improved to 13-3 overall and a perfect 5-0 in ECC play.
UDC (0-11, 0-5 ECC) will host St Thomas Aquinas College in their season finale and Senior Day on April 26th at 2:00pm.
