Rochester, N.Y. – The University of the District of Columbia men's soccer team fought to a hard-earned 0-0 draw on the road against Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon at Roberts Stadium.
The Firebirds (3-2-2, 0-1-2 ECC) generated several promising scoring opportunities, firing 16 shots with seven on target, but could not break through against a strong Redhawks defense. Roberts Wesleyan (6-0-4, 2-0-1 ECC) managed 10 shots, with five on frame, but were turned away by a standout effort in goal from senior goalkeeper Sergio Becerra, who recorded five saves to earn the clean sheet.
UDC controlled much of the pace of play in the attacking third, tallying 12 corner kicks compared to just one for the Redhawks. Isaiah Daniel (3 shots, 2 on goal), Brandon Johnson (3 shots, 1 on goal), and Yamah Nawabi (2 shots, 1 on goal) provided consistent pressure throughout the match.
The contest grew heated in the second half, as Roberts Wesleyan played the final 44 minutes down a man after a red card issued to defender Aiden Ambeau. Despite the advantage, UDC could not capitalize as both goalkeepers held firm.
The Firebirds will look to build momentum from the road point as they continue ECC play next Saturday at home.
