Balanced Attack Leads Firebirds to 4–0 Road Win Over Virginia State

PETERSBURG, Va. – The University of the District of Columbia men's soccer team delivered an impressive all-around performance on Wednesday evening, earning its first road win of the season with a 4–0 shutout victory over Virginia State at Rogers Stadium.

The Firebirds struck first in the 22nd minute when Brandon Johnson converted off a perfectly placed assist from Yamah Nawabi to give UDC the early advantage.

In the second half, the Firebirds' offense caught fire. Alexander Stevens-Lee netted his first goal as a Firebird in the 52nd minute, finishing a well-worked sequence from Yamah Nawabi and Brandon Johnson. Moments later, Johnson added his second goal of the night—again assisted by Nawabi—to extend the lead to 3–0.

Defender Niaza Tamini sealed the win in the 86th minute, scoring off a setup from Axel Gamez to complete the 4–0 scoreline.

Goalkeepers Sergio Becerra and Bryan Diaz-Blanco combined for the clean sheet as UDC outshot the Trojans 15–4 and held a 13–1 edge in corner kicks.

With the victory, the Firebirds improve to 4–3–2 on the season.

Next up, UDC returns home to host D'Youville in an East Coast Conference matchup on Saturday at the UDC Turf Field.
