Firebirds Fall at Home in Cross-Town Rivalry Matchup

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of the District of Columbia women's basketball team fought through a physical matchup against cross-town rival Bowie State but ultimately came up short, 81–54, Saturday afternoon inside the EB Henderson Sports Complex.

Bowie State (4-1) used a strong second-quarter surge to swing momentum, outscoring UDC 26–8 in the frame. Despite stretches of defensive toughness, the Firebirds (2-4) were unable to regain the lead in the second half.

Aiyana Ellis continued to anchor UDC inside with 11 points, a team-high 11 rebounds and 3 blocks, recording her latest double-double effort. Kristian Harris also posted a strong stat line with 12 points and 10 rebounds, marking a double-double of her own.

The Firebirds dominated early, leading 17–11 after the first quarter, but Bowie State's bench production — scoring 37 points — proved to be a key factor. UDC worked relentlessly to close gaps late, scoring 20 points in the fourth quarter, but BSU responded each time to maintain separation.

UDC returns to action on Wednesday, December 3, hosting St. Thomas Aquinas in the first East Coast Conference contest of the season. Tip-off is set for 5:30 PM inside the E.B. Henderson Sports Complex.
