Firebirds Clinch ECC Tournament Berth with Senior Day Victory Over Queens, 71-43

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of the District of Columbia women's basketball team closed out the regular season in dominant fashion Saturday afternoon, defeating Queens College 71-43 on Senior Day at the EB Henderson Sports Complex to secure the No. 6 seed in the upcoming ECC Championships.

With the victory, UDC finishes the regular season 11-15 overall and 7-9 in ECC play.

The Firebirds set the tone early, holding Queens to just six first-quarter points while building a 19-6 advantage after the opening period. UDC maintained control throughout, using a 22-point third quarter to create separation before closing out the 28-point win.

Senior Aiyana Ellis delivered a standout performance in her final home game, pouring in a season- and game-high 25 points while adding eight rebounds, three assists and two blocks.

Aliyah Eason provided a spark off the bench with 14 points, knocking down two three-pointers and going a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Nhaikyia Smith added 10 points, seven rebounds and a team-high seven assists, along with four steals.

Le'Asia Todd contributed six points and eight rebounds with two blocks, while Calista Gaymon chipped in seven points and five steals in the win.

As a team, UDC shot 43.8 percent from three-point range (7-of-16) and 80 percent from the free-throw line (20-of-25). The Firebirds also forced 28 Queens turnovers and recorded 14 steals in a strong defensive effort.

With the regular season complete, the Firebirds now turn their focus to postseason play as they prepare for the ECC Championships. More information regarding tournament matchups and game times will be announced soon.
