Tamini Nets First Collegiate Goal in Firebirds’ ECC Match Against Queens

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of the District of Columbia men's soccer team fell 4–1 to Queens College on Wednesday afternoon at the UDC Turf Field, but the contest was highlighted by a milestone moment for defender Niaza Tamini, who scored his first career collegiate goal late in the second half.

Queens jumped out to a 2–0 halftime lead behind goals from Harry Cooke (32') and Bradyn Brown (42'). The Knights extended their advantage to 4–0 in the second half with tallies from Andrew Johnson (62') and David Oprea (74').

The Firebirds continued to fight and were rewarded in the 88th minute when Tamini connected off an assist from Axel Gamez to put UDC on the board. The goal marked Tamini's first as a Firebird and provided a bright spot in an otherwise challenging conference matchup.

Goalkeeper Sergio Becerra turned away nine shots despite facing 20 attempts overall from the Knights, while UDC managed eight shots with five on frame.

The Firebirds (3-3-1, 0-2-1 ECC) will continue East Coast Conference play on Saturday, October 4, when they travel to Roberts Wesleyan University.
