Firebirds Earn Crucial Conference Win over Staten Island, Extend Unbeaten Streak to Five

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.  – The University of the District of Columbia men's soccer team picked up an important East Coast Conference victory on Wednesday afternoon, defeating the College of Staten Island 1–0 to extend its unbeaten streak to five straight matches.

The lone goal came in the 70th minute off a beautifully executed corner-kick sequence. Yamah Nawabi delivered a perfectly placed ball into the box that found the head of Zachary Parker, who flicked it toward goal where Alexander Moody-Stuart rose above the defense to finish the chance. The strike marked Moody-Stuart's third goal of the season — and remarkably, his third game-winner.

The Firebird defense and goalkeeper Sergio Becerra remained composed throughout, with Becerra making four saves to record his third clean sheet of the season. UDC out-shot the Dolphins 16–13, controlling the tempo and limiting Staten Island to just two shots on frame in the second half.

With the win, UDC improves to 6-3-3 overall and 2-2-2 in ECC play, solidifying its push toward postseason contention as the regular season enters its final stretch.

The Firebirds return home on Saturday, October 25, for a pivotal Senior Day matchup against Daemen University, where UDC will honor six members of its senior class — Axel Gamez, Vasco Irazola, Sergio Becerra, George Shaw, David Akinsanya, and Brandon Johnson — prior to kickoff.

Match time is set for 1:00 p.m. at the UDC Turf Field.
