University of the District of Columbia Point Guard Nigel Munson Named East Coast Conference Player of the Week For Second Time In Three Weeks
Washington, DC – The University of the District of Columbia senior point guard Nigel Munson (Washington, DC – Dematha HS) was named East Coast Conference (ECC) Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks. This is the third time in only four weeks that UDC has brought home the ECC Player of the Week Award. Senior guard Brandon Herbert (Baltimore, MD – McDonogh School) won the Player of the Week award on November 28th, and Nigel Munson won the award for the first time on November 21st.
Last Wednesday, November 30th, in UDC's first ever ECC contest against Queens College, Munson scored 25 points on 11-18 shooting. Munson played all 40 minutes for the Firebirds and picked up five rebounds to go along with six assists. On Saturday, on the road against Washington Adventist, Munson scored 32 points on 12-18 shooting. He was 6-6 from the free throw line and added five rebounds and seven assists in 39 minutes of play. Over the course of the two games last week, Munson scored 57 points on 63.9% shooting (23-36), grabbed 10 rebounds, had 13 assists, and only two turnovers.
The Firebirds have opened up the season with a 7-1 record, 1-0 in the East Coast Conference. UDC's only loss came at the hands of Division I opponent Duquesne University. This past week, the Firebirds defeated Queens College 77-69 at home on Wednesday. The win over Queens marked the first ECC win in the Firebirds' inaugural season in the conference. UDC then defeated Washington Adventist on Saturday 104-86.
